About

Jaakko Oja
I’m a third-year IT engineering student at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK), specializing in telecommunications, computer networks, and cybersecurity.
After several years managing operational security and handling crises in the field, I decided to shift my focus entirely to the digital side of protection. My background in high-pressure environments and strategic risk management gives me a unique perspective: cybersecurity isn't just about code; it's about processes, people, and resilience.
I am highly motivated by roles related to:
- Purple Teaming
- Ethical Hacking
- SOC Operations
- Network Engineering
I sharpen my skills through Cisco courses and hands-on hacking exercises. I’m eager to put this knowledge into practice through real-world challenges. To stay sharp, I actively follow industry news, solve CTF challenges, and work on personal projects available on GitHub.
My current point of pride is my finished Thesis, which explores cybersecurity from an offensive perspective. It focuses on C2 frameworks, combining my key interests with deep research.
"Idle hands are the devil’s workshop." 😉
Outside of technology, I focus on physical and mental recovery: hitting the gym and taking long forest walks are my way to recharge.
I have a deep commitment to specimen fishing, specializing in carp angling. As one of the few dedicated carp anglers in Finland, I hold a personal record for a fish weighing over 17kg. This dedication extends to an international scale, as I plan to attend the Carp Den Bosch 2026 expo in the Netherlands this coming January. It is the world's largest carp fishing event, gathering enthusiasts from around the globe.
For leisure, I am also into gaming, sci-fi, and horror movies. At home, I am often accompanied by my sphynx cat, Tessu, who, admittedly, is a total maniac sometimes!
My years in operational leadership taught me that the biggest difference in any role often comes down to the basics: accountability, clear communication, and simply showing up. I now combine that professional maturity with a genuine, relentless curiosity for technology.
I believe curiosity is the most vital skill in tech, and I try to live by that every day.
